From the view point of the management, asking for extended work hour of the hourly payed employee is OK but has to be within reason. The labor law in the US requires paying 1.5 fold for the extra hour for the first 10 extra hour except Sunday that have to be double pay. Work hour beyond 50 hours per week also have to be double payed. Therefore, it is rather expensive for extra hours work. Most hourly workers I know of like to have extra hours work because of the extra pay. Some don't because that would cut into their "happy hour" at the bar....
